Sir Frank Whittle - Hans Von Ohain

A jet engine is a reaction engine discharging a fast-moving jet that generates thrust by jet propulsion. This broad definition includes turbojets, turbofans, rocket engines, ramjets, and pulse jets. In general, jet engines are combustion engines.

Dr. Hans Joachim Pabst von Ohain of Germany was the designer of the first operational jet engine. He was not, however, credited with being the first to invent the jet engine.

Great Britain's Frank Whittle, who registered a patent for the turbojet engine in 1930, received that recognition although he did not perform a flight test until 1941.
