18 Eggs.

As all eat 4 eggs, means total eggs eaten is 12 eggs

& they are left with 1/3 of total eggs. means 2/3 of total eggs eaten

Thus they had 18 eggs.

Let x = original number of eggs
Each friend gets 1/3 x eggs
Each friend eats 4 eggs
Therefore, ( 1/3 x - 4) * 3 = 1/3 x
Solving the equation, X = 18 eggs
