F = 3*S
(F+8) = 2.5 (S+8)
F + 8 = 2.5 S + 20

replacing F with 3*S we get

3 S + 8 = 2.5 S +20
Solving this we get S = 24 (present age of Son)
therefore present age of Father is 72
The ratio (72+16) / (24+16) is 88 / 40 = 2.2
