If it was an open car, the ones that don't have a roof or has a retractable one. That's how the robber could have hopped in the car and hot wired it.
Or else if it was a normal car it could have been towed by the robber.

Anyone could've stolen the man's keys if they were on top of the roof of the car and used it to open the doors and break in.
