241 stubs => 34 candles + 3 stubs => 34 candles made

4 candles + 9 stubs => 38 candles made
5 candles + 2 stubs => 39 candles made
0 candles + 7 stubs => 39 candles made
1 candle + 0 stubs => 40 candles made.

But those 3 left over after you've created 34 new candles are stubs, not candles.  There aren't 37 candles left to burn, there are 34 plus 3 stubs.
Once you've burned those 34, you can made 4 new candles (7*4=28) and you'll have 6 stubs left over.
Add the 6 stubs to the 3 stubs - and you can make one more candle, with 2 stubs left over.
That turns into an additional 39 candles, not 40.
What am I missing?
I made a mistake by assuming there were 241 candles instead.
Thanks.  If it is any consolation, I only looked this up on line because a mensa quiz got the same answer.  Maybe the original version had 241 candles, not stubs.
