How much merchant has sold at 17% profit?

A merchant has 100 kg. of sugar, part of which he sells at 7% profit and the rest at 17% profit. He gains 10% on the whole. How much is sold at 17%.

Assume that x part being sold at 7% profit
then 1-x part being sold at 10% profit
So
x*7% + (1-x)*17% = 10%
i.e. x = .7
1-x = .3

So out of a total of 100 kg, sugar sold at 17% gain = 30 kg
