Answer: 200 is the maximum marks given in the exam.

he scored 40 and failed by 40
so, passing marks is 80 and 40% marks are required to clear exams.
if 40%=80, 40/100=80/x, where x is the maximum marks
solving this, we get x=200

40/100 *x = 40+40
40/100*X=80
x = 80*40/100
x= 200
