What is the ratio whose terms differ by 40 and the measure of which is 2/7?

The salaries A, B, C are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. If the increments of 15%, 10% and 20% are allowed respectively in their salaries, then what will be new ratio of their salaries?

Difference between x and y = 40 I.e.
y - x = 40 ............. (1)
x/y = 2/7
Cross multiply;
7x = 2y
7x / 2 = y ............... (2)
Substitute for y in (1);
y - x = 40
(7x/2) - x = 40
Take 2 as lcm;
[7x - 2x] / 2 = 40
5x/2 = 40
Cross multiply;
5x = 2 * 40 = 80
5x = 80
x = 80/5 = 16
x = 16.

7x/2 = y
7(16) / 2 = y
7(8) = y
y = 56.

The fraction is;
16/56
