The third umpire review system debuted in Test cricket in November 1992 at Kingsmead, Durban
for the South Africa vs. India series and sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to be dismissed (run out) by using television replays.
The sole purpose of reviewing controversial decisions made by the on-field umpires
as to whether or not a batsman had been dismissed. The ICC initially made the Third-umpire review system mandatory in all international matches, but later made its use optional, so that the system would only be used if both teams agree.
