Pentathlon
The sports included in the modern pentathlon are fencing (one-touch épée), swimming (200m freestyle), equestrian show jumping (15 jumps), and the Laser-Run (four legs of laser pistol shooting followed by an 800m run (3200m in total)). The original pentathlon, now known as the Classic Pentathlon, was patterned on the skills needed by an ideal Greek soldier of the era. The modernization to a pattern appropriate for the time was introduced to the Olympics in 1912.
