How do we differentiate control plane and user plane in LTE?

Are you talking in context of access network or core network?
core network and and I want to how data flows though control plane and uesr plane in sequence for eg:if we have phy,Mac and pdcp how data will flow through this

User plane traffic is the traffic which is the actual voice/data and use the GTP-U as protocol and the path is
UE <-->ENB<-->SGW<-->PGW

Where is control plane is a signaling traffic which uses S1AP and GTP-C protocol.
