What is L2 layer in LTE?

While in control plane or user plane we are mentioning phy, mac, rlc, pdcp. While mentioning between enb and mme we are mention only L2 why?

Hello Vakati,

eNodeB and MME has S1 interface and protocol between these two nodes is known as S1-AP.
S1-AP protocol runs over the SCTP protocol and SCTP in turn runs over the IP layer.
IP layer itself is layer 3 protocol .

I have basic understanding of RRC Re-establishment procedure at RRC level. But i am looking for actions performed by lower layer like PDCP, RLC etc wrt DATA Plane and signalling.

Network slicing is a concept by using that virtual networks are created for different sets of devices. In case of next generation radio (NR), is there any change at L1/L2 to support network slicing compare to the LTE implementation ?
