What is headless browser? What is the difference between the normal browsers like Chrome, Firefox?

Is there any browser simulator that fulfills these requirements:

• gem written in Ruby
• automatically performing Ajax and Javascript code (XSS is not an issue in my case)
• independent of the frameworks used by the website (Rails, JavaEE, ASP.NET, ...)
• only client-side
• no testing
• no browser dependency

A headless browser is a web browser without a graphical user interface (GUI).
In other words, it is a browser, a piece of software, that access web pages but doesn't show them to any human being. They're actually used to provide the content of web pages to other programs.
