Some will show up as USB mass storage (or at least let you access an attached sd card by that method). I've got a samsung which is locked down for that (and I don't want to have to root it), in which case you
have to use MTP. For access in KDE I've got kio_mtp installed. simple-mtpfs works for me if I need command line access.

Just be aware that MTP doesnt give you a "real" filesystem, e.g. IIRC theres no seeking and files cannot be modified in place or even directly overwritten, just read, written and deleted. simple_mtpfs does some caching to try to disguise this but its useful to know.

If you have Fedora 19 (and Gnome) just plug in your phone. There is nothing to download. Your phone will be displayed and you can browse it.

you mount a phone via MTP and use your ordinary filebrowser and whatever applications are assigned with a mime-type.

so why would you need a "special application"?

I have a running Fedora 21 system. I would like to make a backup of it to a USB drive, a clone that can be booted. I know how to do all the "normal" stuff (partition, LVM, mkfs, rsync, and GRUB), but I'd like the USB drive to be encrypted, and I don't know how to set that up manually (I haven't messed with encrypted filesystems under Linux before).

The system I'm backing is also headless, so no GUI tools. Any Pointers, tips, suggestions?

I'd like to transfer a directory of personal information (not just contacts) from my Fedora-19/KDE laptop
to my Samsung Galaxy S2 android phone. What is the best way currently to do this? Is MTP functional now? I'd prefer if possible to use rsync.

Also, Is there any How To about setting up things so that Android Studio uses the Oracle Java but the rest of the programs use Open JDK?

Is using a VM the only way to do it? Id rather not have to do that.

Installed Fedora 26 on recommendation of a Scribus developer. Installed about 30 packages per his advice.

But when I try to compile a program the machine can't find C++. So what is the package I need to install to compile C++ programs?.

Another question. On Slackware (yes I am one of those) I can use kdm to get to a window function ( I preferXFCE). How do I set up a window manager in Fedora and how do I access it?

Has anyone archived some third-party libs like jars, .so files into a module to generate an aar file? I put the .so files into jniLibs, but when I generate an aar files, I found the menu of the files was wrong with some empty dirs. And I put this aar file into my project, something goes wrong (crashes) when it calls .so files.

Can u help me to make it right?
