SON (Self Organizing Network) is required to minimize the operational efforts. It will increase the Network Performance and Quality of the Radio Network. It will skip the drive tests. It covers the various aspects of Network Planning and Organizing.

How it will work ?
It will auto-tune the Radio Parameters. I found this link very useful and will give you all details surely.
