Could you tell me for which generation you want this information?
i mean either for 2G or 3G or 4G ?

Actually it could be anything. I asked generally what are the tasks for Mobile in Idle mode. Just be general. I would be thankful.

i am having reference of GSM and going to answer for this. If you need some other inputs will welcome.

Usually or generally Mobile Equipment does these things, which has been renamed in further generations but these are the main tasks has to fill always.

  • PLMN selection and reselection
  • Cell selection and reselection
  • Location registration
  • Paging
  • Reading of system information
