How to do database testing by using automation tool?

How to check runtime database checkpoints. i want to check that wheather the current record is added in database table after execute the adding a record?

Suppose let us take WinRunner

in WinRunner we have the check point in Database checkpoint in that u have the Runtime record check

using that we can compare the Runtime record is there in database or not
