LTE Femtocell are till now being designed for deployment in licensed spectrum only. But, as the BW demand is increasing, to cope up with this, gradually the companies are moving towards LTE-unlicensed. Then Femtocells will also be successfully used like Wi-Fi.
It's like femto is having a journey in the reverse direction of Wi-Fi.. earlier Wi-Fi was for indoor use only. Now, in smart cities, wi-fi has a broad area coverage. But, earlier mobile operators gave braoder area coverage, and now, it's coming indoor to provide better QoS.
