Why WCDMA called Wideband?

Probably a simple question, 3G WCDMA systems have 5MHz bandwidth (one direction). 5MHz is neither wide nor narrow; then why it is called WCDMA.

They named it as WIDE for having a reference with 2G-CDMA systems. In 2G-CDMA systems the bandwidth is 1.25 MHz and in WCDMA it is 5 MHz bandwidth (one direction). That's the reason it is called as Wide Code Division Multiple Access.
