LTE-A is being considered for IoT, specifically LTE-M , There is no 3gpp spec for IoT in LTE but lot of blogs and discussions are taking place for using LTE for M2M and IoT.

This is mainly because of LTE-Direct.
I think  3GPP is working on LTE-Direct , that is why LTE is being considered for M2M.
