Order of the Elephant
The Order of the Elephant is an order of chivalry dating from the Renaissance, and officially established at the end of the 17th century as the highest honour in Denmark. It is restricted almost exclusively to members of the Danish royal family and to foreign major heads of state. The name relates to the collar and the badge in an aristocratic exclusive order which faded with the Reformation but eventually inspired the continuing honour.
