Icesave, owned and operated by Landsbanki, collapsed in 2008 along with all of Iceland's banking system. Landsbanki had been one of three financial institutions intrinsic to the financial stability of Iceland to go bankrupt within a few days. The collapse of Icesave, which had been launched in the UK and the Netherlands, caused a long-running international dispute to deal with compensation to account holders.
