Edward Jenner, FRS was an English physician and scientist who was the pioneer of smallpox vaccine, the world's first vaccine. He was born on May 17, 1749, Berkeley, United Kingdom and passed away on January 26, 1823.
Though Inoculation had been used for centuries in Asia Minor. It was used in the west in the early 18th century, but was risky, and successful experiments in (particularly smallpox) vaccination had been carried out in England and Germany in the 30 or 40 years before Jenner's work. However, Jenner's work in smallpox made reduced-risk practice more widely understood, and more readily available.
