The present ages of two persons differ by 16 years. 3 years ago, the elder one was 3 times as old as the younger one. What is the present age of the elder person?

3 years ago
Age of elder = 3x
Age of younger = x
Presently
Age of elder = 3x + 3
Age of younger = x + 3
Difference in thier ages = 3x + 3 -(x + 3) = 16
2x = 16
x = 8.

Therefore present age of the elder person
= 3x + 3 = 24 + 3 = 27.
