In the 6/49 lottery, you choose six numbers from 1 to 49 inclusive and you win the grand prize if the six numbers selected in the draw match your six numbers.
To check their ticket, a man gets a newspaper and reads to his wife the numbers that were chosen from the previous night s draw.
But after he reads out only the first number, she lets out a cheer, knowing from that number alone that they've won.
What was the number that the man read?

The numbers are in ascending order.
They had the numbers 44, 45, 46, 47, 48 and 49.
The first number the man read was 44 so the other numbers had to be 45, 46, 47, 48, 49.
