RSRP : Linear average of power transmitted over REs which carries cell specific reference signal over a considered bandwidth.
While calculating RSRP value, power transmitted on cyclic prefix is excluded.

RSRP is mainly used for cell selection, cell re-selection, handover and to calculate path loss for the power control.
RSRP value ranges from -140 dbm to -44 dbm. These both border values come out by using the following steps.

Steps to calculate Max value i.e. -44 dbm:

  1. Maximum level that an UE can receive : -25 dbm
  2. Bandwidth of 1.4 Mhz = 6 RB = 72 REs
    -25 - 10 log (72) = -44 dbm

Steps to calculate Minimum value i.e. - 140 dbm:
1. Maximum path loss of 152 db
2. Transmit power of 43 dbm
3. Bandwidth of 20 Mhz = 1200 REs
43 - 152 - 10 log (1200) = -139.72
